What is Qui Gong?

Qui gong in Reston, VA is an old Chinese health care system that integrates physical positions, breathing exercises and forced intention. The word Qui gong (Chi Kung) is composed of two Chinese words. Qi is pronounced as chee and is usually translated to mean the life force or vital-energy that flows through all things in the universe. The second word, Gong, means accomplishment, or skill that's cultivated by steady practice. Combined, Qui gong (Chi Kung) means cultivating energy. It's a system used for health maintenance, healing and improving vitality.

Qui gong practices can be classified as martial, medical, or spiritual. Styles utilize (1) a posture, moving or stationary, (2) a breathing technique and (3) mental focus. Some practices increase the Qi; others circulate it, use it to cleanse and heal the body, store it or release Qi to help heal others. Practices vary from the soft internal gentle styles like Tai Chi: to the external, rigorous styles such as Kung fu. However, the slow, gentle movements of most Qui gong practices can be easily adapted, even for the physically challenged and can be practiced by all age groups.

While Qui gong is an extremely effective health care practice, one must remember that this is not a universal remedy. Many health care specialists recommend Qui gong in Reston, VA as an important form of alternative complementary medicine.
