So you want to become a Director?

Isn't that what everyone wants. It is most likely the thought of being able to control things and having the right to do so. All those people performing what you instruct them. Or maybe YOU'VE GOT Anything TO Say. Or maybe not. You do not just want a profession, you also desire power and glory. However, the huge question is, can you picture scenarios in your brain? If the answer is no then you might prefer to forget about becoming a director or a cinematographer.

Directors and Cinematographers can string pictures together in their head, like a Composer can "hear" music and then write it down. Now some musicians tinker about on an instrument until they work out a tune: this is not being a real musician. Real Musicians hear music in their minds, then jot it down, or play it. The majority of us all are just moving about, and a lot of fun it is too. For some people, directing is like a vocation or a calling like that of being a Priest or a Medical doctor. It's not remotely like being a Priest or a Physician, but it may be a vocation, because no-one in their right thoughts would voluntarily go through the kind of hell that a Film Director has to go through. Film Directors not only have to be able to visualise in their heads, but they also have to be able to deal with a lot of very demanding and very distinct types of people. Sometimes someone the likes of Karasawa or Hitchcock comes into play. Individuals like them are so amazing that they clearly don't live in the same world as us mere mortals. And it depends on us to Guard and Preserve People like Them - the Brilliant Ones. Long ago the society looks up to these Brilliant Ones. Nowadays Film Directors of all kinds acquire the treatment, but most of them are not The Brilliant Ones, but are just Ordinary Mortals trying to get in the limelight and make a decent movie.

There are 2 things that you have keep in mind if you intend to become a director one is that bad behavior is not necessary and another is that you do not have to burden yourself with technical information. He or She can have their heads completely submerged in the Script and the Actors and that's all right by me. This because it is our job as the crew to provide all the necessary technical expertise. The individuals that work together with the director while shooting the film are the DP. Operator and the Script Supervisor. Directors who dictate everything are really boring to work with - especially when they are unpleasant. If they are a Brilliant One individuals forgive them, but if they are just dull, then they don't.
