Surface engineering has many uses in the automotive, aerospace, power generation and medical fields, any place that requires close tolerance to specs and a need for reduced friction and wear and tear of metal parts and metal finishing on things like external gearings for instance.
The REMCHEM ISF process is a proprietary process that was developed in house. It is for a metal to metal contact part and by utilizing the ISF process, it basically makes parts exceptionally smooth and reduces friction and with the reduction in friction you get all the benefits of a smooth surface which is increased part life, increased efficiencies, reduces fuel economy if that’s a concern for you. Fewer failures, that sort of thing.
ISF stands for Isotropic Super Finishing. That term ISF itself is a trademark but if you were to spell it out itself, that’s not trademark. An isotropic surface is a non-directional surface and that assists with lubrication retention. The properties of an isotropic surface are that instead of a "grain" like most surfaces have, they have a mesh-like "multi-dimensional" surface.
REM ISF deals specifically with metal components, with the majority of them being gearing components or parts. We do other things not related to gears but a lot of what we do focuses on gearing and obviously that goes into a lot of different: race cars, regular cars, trucks, even gears that go into aerospace things. REM ISF also has uses in the medical field which isn’t related to gearing and there’s some other as well, but gearing remains the main focus of what we do at REMCHEM.
If you have steel, titanium or other kind of engineered metals, you want to reduce the friction in these components and by doing that you improve fuel economy. Other benefits of metal finishing include an increase in power density, flux lubrication, and lower operating temperatures. Helicopters use it in part to reduce noise caused by vibration. Engineered metals, using the REM ISF process last longer and because the parts are smoother they don't fail as much.
All this means reduced costs for maintenance as you don’t have to replace parts as often. You don’t have to worry about that and we also have a refurbishment program as well. So, instead of things that are typically considered unusable meaning you have to go out and buy a brand new component, you can instead send them REMCHEM and we can fix almost all of them, bringing them back to factory specs.
We've done extensive testing and we find that there is a significant decrease in turn around time when using REMCHEM's ISF process in metal finishing to refurbish parts than buying a new part. More importantly, our testing has shown that our refurbished parts are even better than brand new components, better than original specs. Our refurbished parts actually last longer and work better than the original components in many cases.
