Hydroponics has been around for many years. However, it is becoming the new way to grow food which does not need soil.
After many centuries of farming, there are locations where the soil has become so overworked, even after rotating of crops, that the essential nutrients have been leeched out of the ground. This makes it difficult to grow anything. This is where hydroponics can help.
As hydroponics doesn’t require the use of soil, land that is being used to grow crops, might well be converted to hydroponic farming.
You can do the same thing on a smaller scale in your back yard if you wish. You can purchase hydroponic kits.
What exactly are hydroponic kits? Here is one kit found via an internet search, on a website called Stealth Hydro. This particular kit is called Bubbleponics.
It comes with lights, in this case two low heat dual spectrum lights (red & blue) which are designed for optimal vegetative, and flowering of the plants. These lights come with parabolic reflectors to give the plants the best light coverage.
The base system includes a 6 gallon reservoir for the nutrient solution. The lid has space for six four-inch net pots with the feeder hoses attached.
The net pots that fit into these receptacles are made of heavy-duty materials and are reusable. The roots are able to grow through the net material into the nutrient solution.
You get a flowering timer. This is used to cycle the lighting system for optimal light and dark periods for flowering.
The hydroponic kits also include a 160 gallon per hour pump with feeder hoses. The pump is used to circulate the nutrient solution to the roots of the plants. There is also an air pump with a 12 inch air stone. This helps to oxygenate the roots.
The kit has a six month supply of nutrient powder, which when mixed with water up to the fill line of the reservoir will supply your plants with the proper amount of food to the root system.
Other items you will find include six Rockwool cubes, (which is a great medium for starting seeds or seedlings) grow rocks, a pH control system, and an instruction manual and CD.
The Bubbleponics system is a good way to get started with hydroponics. It is a continuous plant feeding system, which delivers a constant drip-feeding to the roots of your plants. You don’t need to spray the roots by hand. That method can be hit or miss. You might give the plants too much or too little food. That's why the Bubbleponics system is one of the best values for anyone wanting to purchase inexpensive, easy to use, low maintenance hydroponic kits.
