Graphic Design Careers

Graphic design careers are perfect for the person who desires to work in an artistically inspired atmosphere spending their day producing visual communications for the individual or business. Many people, usually those that are very creative view this as a fun career choice, spending your day drawing pictures and devising new fonts and designs. In reality, although this is a very rewarding profession, careers in graphic design are highly regarded because great value is placed on those individuals who can successfully communicate an idea or brand that conveys the image that the client wants to portray.

When considering graphic design careers it’s important to know that the designs created have to be very much tied into marketing and sales of the company and/or product. Obviously, the colors, layout and overall theme have to be eye-catching and create an atmosphere that will provoke buyers to stay on that website or implore them to purchase the service or product. There is a lot of pressure on the designer to produce effective artwork for the project at hand especially if there are several overseeing managers who disagree on the current design. Although this can be true, nothing is more gratifying for the creative person than to see your design come to life and realize that you were the one that helped the business become a success.

Graphic designers spend their day working on many different and unique interesting projects including: logos, book and magazine covers, labels, banners, stationary, posters and now more than ever, web images. Normally, graphic designers have earned a degree in art and design from a university or college.

The designer must have a working knowledge of Photoshop, Flash, Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign and other cutting-edge software as well as having the ability to be flexible, understand design tasks and completely technical savvy. Daily, there are software updates and changes, so the best graphic designers are sure to stay abreast of the newest modifications in the programs they are using.

There are many career choices available for the budding graphic designer; one of which is within an advertising agency. The upside to working in this environment is there is a lot of work available so the designer is kept busy and will always have a paycheck. The downside is that it’s one of the most stressful environments for the creative designer as well as the longest working hours.

Graphic design careers are a mixed bag regarding this type of work. There is a lot of creative energy expended so there is great reward for these types of people. On the other hand, coping with very tight deadlines and usually demanding overseers can be a bit much for some thin-skinned individuals. And although this is true, careers in graphic design are usually very rewarding and fulfilling for those creative and artistic people who love this type of challenge.
